There’s a light fixture in my basement that is one of those generic single bulb with a pull chain deals. The chain broke off years ago. So now to turn that light off I just unscrew the bulb slightly until it goes out. It’s still screwed in far enough that it holds it in there. Every time I twist that bulb to turn it on I think “Oh yeah, I really need to fix that.” It’s been 10 years of that so far.

Thinking about it now I wish I would have tried to make that experience a little more extreme. Maybe put the pillow case in the refrigerator or freezer during the day. I guess the truth of it is that’s how I grew up so it didn’t seem weird or unbearable. To this day I’m always the last one to complain about a room being too warm or stuffy.

My wife got used to the fact that we could never have a cat years ago because of my allergies. Now she gets to relieve the disappointment all over again through our child.
“Mommy we should get a cat for our house!”
“Yes I would really like that but daddy’s head would explode and then who would mow the lawn?”
