Sunspot 875 Flares

Explanation: An unusually active sunspot region is now crossing the Sun. The region, numbered 875, is larger than the Earth and has produced several solar flares over the past week. It should take a few more days for Sunspot 875 to finish crossing the solar disk. The above image of the Sun was taken last Wednesday in a very specific color of red light to bring up detail. Sunspot 875, in the midst of erupting a large Class C solar flare, can be seen as the dark region to the upper right. In the above image, relatively cool regions appear dark while hot regions appear bright. On the far left, solar prominences are visible hovering above the Sun's surface.

2.6 Ruimte
a) Het verhaal speelt zich voornamelijk af op het Engelse platteland.
b) Het sociaal milieu wordt weinig beschreven. Het plattelandsleven wordt beschreven. Toch betreft het geen gewoon boerengezin. De moeder heeft een belangrijke job en de kinderen zijn hierdoor zeer verstandig. Daisy ervaart ze ook als veel beleefder dan zichzelf.
c) Er is duidelijk verschil tussen verblijf in een huis dat aanvoelt als ‘een thuis’ en nadien in een schuur (begin van belangrijke gebeurtenis). Daisy is ook vaak op weg, op zoek naar…
Ze heeft eigenlijk geen eigen plaats.
d) Ik moet hierover goed denken maar vond dan enkele voorbeelden. De luchthaven in het begin benadrukt haar eenzaamheid in een vreemd land. Het werken op de velden in volle oorlogtijd doet denken aan de vroegere concentratiekampen en hoe hard het leven is.
e) Wanneer ze gaan zwemmen is de omgeving als het paradijs. Het sluit goed aan bij de sfeer, Daisy voelt zich supergelukkig. Er is nog geen sprake van de oorlog.
f) Ze ziet Edmond terug in de tuin. Deze is zeer goed onderhouden en staat vol bloemen. Het was prachtig weer en toen zag ze hem: zijn blik boos, hard en koud.

The Large Cloud of Magellan

Explanation: Portuguese navigator Fernando de Magellan and his crew had plenty of time to study the southern sky during the first circumnavigation of planet Earth. As a result, two fuzzy cloud-like objects easily visible for southern hemisphere skygazers are known as the Clouds of Magellan. Of course, these star clouds are now understood to be dwarf irregular galaxies, satellites of our larger spiral Milky Way galaxy. The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) pictured above is only about 180,000 light-years distant in the constellation Dorado. Spanning about 15,000 light-years or so, it is the most massive of the Milky Way's satellite galaxies and is the site of the closest supernova in modern times. The prominent red knot on the right is 30 Doradus, or the Tarantula Nebula, a giant star-forming region in the Large Magellanic Cloud.
